I’ve never really thought there was a difference between cosmetics and a cosmeceutical, but obviously drugs are different. Drugs can of course be found over the counter or for that matter in prescription form. However, apparently shampoo is a cosmetic as is deodorant, toothpaste, makeup, and retinol. And some of those have been used to either reduce wrinkles or at least hide them. But apparently cosmeceutical isn’t even a valid description of anything. It doesn’t mean anything, so what you define as a cosmeceutical, well that’s really up to you. Drugs are meant to treat some existing problem. There are some prescription drugs that are meant to reduce wrinkles, but most of them are nothing more than antioxidants or products meant to repair the skin or help it to heal itself after surgery or some other major procedure. So realistically, to me at least, that’s not a wrinkle cream. So I have to wonder well most over the counter products are the same way, but is one really any better than the other? The difference is there are some cosmetics that actually do the job right and have the proven ingredients. I just wonder why the prescriptions don’t.
